Inka Essenhigh

Inka Essenhigh was born in Belfonte, Pennsylvania in 1969. Since completing the graduate program at the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1993, she has exhibited widely across the United States and Europe, including the first solo exhibition of her paintings at the Albright Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York in 1999. Her work has also been included in important group exhibitions including the ground-breaking Greater New York: New Art in New York Now, at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York in 2000, Hybrids at the Tate Gallery, Liverpool, and the touring exhibition, My Reality: Contemporary Art and the Culture of Japanese Animation in 2001. She also has a forthcoming solo exhibition which will premier at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Scotland, and will travel to the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami in December 2003. Her work is also included in a number of important public collections, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York, the Tate Gallery, London, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Inka Essenhigh continues to live and work in New York.
