ZAHA HADID NEWS
Project Herault Culture Sport Montpellier, France (2003-07)
Zaha Hadid won the competition for this project by beating out Henri Gaudin Architecture Studio and Vezzoni-Nebout Architects. She will work
with West8 on the landscape design and the complex will comprise of an archive, a library and sports department. The surface area is 44,000m2
and the inspiration behind the building is that of a large tree-trunk, laid horizontal. The archive is located at the solid base of the trunk,
followed by the slightly more porous bibliotheque. The sport department with its well-lit offices is next, at the end where the trunk
bifurcates and becomes much lighter. (To see 3D renderings and relief models click here.)
