It's amazing what you can
get for free these days; movies, magazines, newspapers, umbrellas and, thanks to The Social, a night of brilliant new music. The Social has been serving up mouth-wateringly good nights out for over ten years now and has a particularly appetising menu on offer for the 9th March -- a three course helping of delicious new music.
BBC Radio 1's
Huw Stephens presents the acts, the headliner being Bristolian band
Wilder, who will play their first ever London gig after signing to
Rough Trade. Also on the bill is
Nedry, a London trio who have bravely fused
dubstep,
shoegaze and spectral
Bjork-like vocals, creating a truly
sublime cocktail of sound. Nedry have received a flurry of rapturous New Year
hype, and have recently released their debut album,
Condors, on
Monotreme. Opening up the night is
Capac, who will be playing their deep, earthy and slightly haunting electronic
sound, and if all that is not enough, DJ Felson will be spinning tunes in between the bands to help keep things lively. Just imagine how smug you will feel if any of these bands blow up (which is highly likely) and you can proudly say that not only did you see them first, but that it didn't cost you a penny.
